Annoyed now.

See, despite succumbing to the Livejournal craze to an extent, I still read a lot of blogs that have not been subsumed by the Hivemind. A lot. For this, I use a nifty device called an RSS reader. The RSS reader requires that a site have RSS feeds. Or, you know, Atom feeds. It's not picky.

And this would all be sunshine and light, except for one thing. That thing is called Blogger.

Most of my non-LJ feeds are Blogger.

Blogger recently released something called Beta. When a user upgrades to Beta (and Blogger is annoying as hell until they do) their old RSS feeds become obsolete.

Blogger (judging by the amount of screaming on the forums) utterly and completely failed to publicize this. The feeds just vanished. Moreover, whatever it was Blogger tried to replace the old feeds with does not appear to work. The only feeds I can get off of Blogger, and I have tried every URL on the map including the six or seven variations floating around GoogleGroups, are feeds that users have set up independently through Feedburner.

Blogger doesn't appear interested in fixing this problem. Blogger needs to pull its head out of its ass.

I am pissed. There's a reason I use an RSS reader, one that starts with "lack of" and ends with "time". I wanna keep up with friends, interesting people, et cetera, but if it means checking 10 separate URLs on a daily basis (and yes, that's really how many defunct Blogger feeds I have), guess what? Not happening. Not even on a weekly basis.

Annoyed, annoyed, annoyed.

So if you're reading this, and you use Blogger, for God's sake check your feeds. They aren't working and you are losing readers to it. Blogger's not telling you, so somebody needs to.

Hi Kat,
Thank you for your comments and link to Feedburner. I amazed myself <g> by successfully putting an icon from Feedburner on my Pandababy blog (on only the second try).

I must be technically handicapped, still, because I'm not able to figure out how to subscribe to a feed to Kat Dancing, so please help me out. (I clicked on a few things here, and didn't know what to do with the html for rss. I'd like to put a feed to your blog on "My Yahoo" page.)

Thanks

Pandababy -- glad I could help. :)

Okay, to add my feed to your yahoo page, copy the "syndication" URL in my sidebar (you should be able to do this by left-clicking on it.) Go to your My Yahoo page. There's a box on the right called "Inside My Yahoo" with a link named "Add RSS by URL". Click on it and paste my RSS feed in the box. That should do it, I hope....

Alternatively, you could just click the "My Yahoo" button I figured out how to add in the sidebar. *wry grin*

I'm so glad you added your note on putting the "My Yahoo" button on your sidebar -- when I saw it this morning, I thought it had been there all along and that I was just going blind <g>.

Thanks for making it easy. I enjoy your blog, and now I can keep up with new entries.

Got everything set up with FeedBurner, including email subscription service. Thanks for the head's up. Something about RSS feeds presses my "eek, I no understand" buttons, but FeedBurner was damn simple and easy to understand. Groovy.
